Each Breaking the Glass Fused Glass Ceiling Pin is handmade using recycled glass bottles that are kiln fused into an iconic brooch that celebrates the history making "breaking the glass ceiling", in which women hold positions that were previously held only by men. All profits from the sale of my Breaking the Glass Ceiling pins are donated to the Democratic National Committee to support the breaking of the ultimate glass ceiling.
This pin was inspired by a piece worn by Madeleine Albright when she became the first woman to hold the office of United States Secretary of State. My interpretation is individually handmade of recycled glass bottles that are first cleaned and the labels removed. The bottles are then broken and the glass shards are carefully arranged to form the base of the brooch, and then fully fused and annealed to become one piece. A piece of fused cobalt glass is added to complete the work. The brooch finding is a high quality silver plated metal 1" pin that is permanently affixed to the glass. On some pieces the finding is slightly visible from the front.
This listing is for one piece, the pin shown in the first photo; it is approximately 1 1/2" x 1 1/2". The group photo shows some different available sizes and accent pieces, each piece is unique. I also make these as small tie tacks for men. If you'd like a custom size or accent piece please contact me. Custom pieces take a week or longer to create; finished pieces that are purchased as shown are shipped the next day.
Please note that these pins, particularly those with narrow projections, are somewhat fragile and must be worn and handled accordingly. Keep out of the reach of children.
